Pickles & Chutneys


      
         No Indian meal is complete without a mouth – watering Pickle or Chutney on the side. Pickles and Chutneys are the original “Finger Licking “foods that have graced the Indian table since ancient times. Every family has its own Pickle legends , lore and secret recipes.One such aim of this blog is to bring you the recipes for Pickles and Chutneys from across the length and breadth of this vast land. 



Pickles are foods usually fruit or vegetables , which are preserved in one, or a combination, of the following : salt , vinegar or lime juice, oil, spices and generally small amount of sugar.

Chutney was originally the name given to a condiment made up of freshly ground ingredients, usually fruits or vegetables, herbs, spices and flavourings. Today it includes sweet , sour and spicy preserves such as murabbas, fresh relishes and dry mixtures of ground spices and lentils, that usually accompany a cereal or a snack.
